How the Scrabble word finder scores your rack
Type your letters into the tool above and it finds every word whose letters are all in your rack. Each rack letter gets used at most once. A word can use fewer letters than your rack holds, so a seven-letter rack also shows fives, fours, and threes. Results are grouped by length, longest first, then by points, then common words first.
The score you see is the face value of the tiles. It does not include board premium squares. A double word square, a triple letter square, and the fifty-point bingo bonus for using all seven tiles are all left out. That keeps the number honest: it is what the tiles are worth before the board changes anything.
Scrabble tile values are fixed. Q and Z are 10 points each. J and X are 8. K is 5. F, H, V, W, and Y are 4. B, C, M, and P are 3. D and G are 2. The one-point tiles are A, E, I, L, N, O, R, S, T, and U. A blank tile scores zero, no matter what letter you call it.
That is why "quiz" is 22 points face value: Q is 10, U is 1, I is 1, and Z is 10. Add them and you get 22. On a triple word square it would be 66, but this tool shows the 22.
Finding a hook letter with the contains filter
A hook is a letter already on the board that you build onto. Say the board has an S sitting at the end of a word, and you want to play a word that ends in S so it hooks on. Use the contains filter and type S. The tool returns only words with an S somewhere inside them, in order. You can also use starts with and ends with for the first and last letters, and exact length or minimum length to control size.
Blanks are easy. Type a question mark, an asterisk, or a question mark and the tool treats it as any letter. A blank scores zero points, so a word built with one blank shows a lower total than the same word built from real tiles. That is correct for Scrabble scoring.
Here is a worked example. Your rack holds L, E, A, G, and E. The tool finds eagle for 6 points (E1, A1, G2, L1, E1). It also finds gale for 5, glee for 5, age for 4, gel for 4, and lea for 3. If you had a blank instead of one E, the same words would appear, but any word using the blank would score one point less.
Where the results can differ from your game
The tool searches ENABLE, the Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon. It is a public-domain word list of 172,823 English words. Everything is lowercase, there are no proper nouns, and no words with hyphens or apostrophes. Words are ranked common first using frequency buckets from Google's web word counts. About 78,826 of the words have a frequency bucket. The rest are rare.
ENABLE is close to the official Scrabble dictionary, but it is not the same list. The official tournament list is maintained by NASPA in North America, and Collins is used in other countries. A word you find here may be rejected by your game. Your game may also accept a word that is not in ENABLE. If a word looks unusual, check it in the game before you play it. That one habit saves a challenge.
The tool does not try multi-word anagrams or proper names. It finds single words only. Searching all 172,823 words takes a fraction of a second in your browser, so you can try several racks in a row without waiting.

Words With Friends uses different values. J is 10 there, not 8. B and C are 4, not 3. G is 3, not 2. H is 3, not 4. L and U are 2, not 1. M and P are 4, not 3. N is 2, not 1. V is 5, not 4. Y is 3, not 4. Because of those differences, "quiz" scores 23 in Words With Friends instead of 22. If you play both games, use the Words With Friends page for that board.
